Helping people see the world

At the MedRVA Foundation, we imagine a world where everyone can see the wonder of their surroundings and experience the beauty of life. From our roots as the Richmond Eye & Ear Hospital, we have given hope to Central Virginians with vision impairment for more than 70 years. We can’t do it without you.

Low Vision Center

Losing your vision can be devastating. At Central Virginia’s only independent, not-for-profit low vision clinic, we help people with vision impairment access the supports and services they need to improve their independence and live the life that they love.

Pre-K Vision screening

Pre-K Vision Program

Early detection means early correction. The MedRVA Foundation provides free vision screenings for young children throughout Central Virginia, so they’re able to see—and learn—when they begin school.

How we spend our money

What do we mean by “underserved communities”?

Medically underserved communities in Central Virginia are those that have difficulty accessing essential medical care. These communities often have a large senior population, a lack of medical providers, and lower income levels.

A history of hope

1952

The Richmond Eye Hospital opens, thanks to a donation from Virginia “Ginny” Fox Beveridge. Ginny sought to establish a hospital in Central Virginia that would offer hope and healing to people facing challenges with vision loss and low vision, just as she had

Opening of The Richmond Eye Hospital
1997

The Low Vision Clinic opens, providing specialized care for individuals with vision impairment

MedRVA partners with CrossOver Healthcare Ministry, providing critical eye care to those who need it most

Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital adopts the name MEDARVA—a shortened version of Medical Arts in Virginia—to support the organization’s evolution and expanded medical offerings

The organization rebrands to MedRVA, representing 200+ credentialed physicians committed to providing Central Virginians with exceptional local healthcare

The MedRVA Foundation continues to grow, helping more and more people see the world. Next goal: a Mobile Vision Clinic to make eye care more accessible for children throughout Central Virginia
