RICHMOND, Va. (March 1, 2023) – Today, MEDARVA Healthcare announced that it has rebranded to MEDRVA Healthcare (pronounced MED-RVA).
The decision comes with much deliberation among the MEDRVA team as well as input from the local community on the organization’s role in providing medical care to Central Virginians and was unanimously approved by the organization’s Board of Directors.
As part of its rebranding effort, MEDRVA Healthcare will roll out a new organization logo and website and has reevaluated its missions and values. The organization looks forward to providing the same exceptional care to its patients.
“We’re proud of our rich history of providing medical care to Richmonders since 1952. Our new name symbolizes not only our current role in the community, but our plans to further evolve and continue providing Richmonders and Central Virginians with exceptional, local healthcare,” said Taylan “Ty” Bozkurt, Chief Executive Officer.
“Our organization began decades ago when Richmonder Ginny Fox Beveridge couldn’t find medical help for blindness she developed later in life. After traveling extensively to find care, she resolved to build a local hospital where others – even those unable to pay – could receive care near home,” explains Chief Compliance Officer, Debra Larkin. “We believe our new name better represents our purpose of providing local medical care and supporting medical research that enhances the health of our community, and also pays homage to Mrs. Beveridge’s vision.”
MEDRVA is an independent, not-for-profit, health care organization based in Richmond, Virginia. It opened to the public in 1952 as the Richmond Eye Hospital. Today MEDRVA Healthcare includes two outpatient surgery centers with 16 operating and procedure rooms, an imaging center, the region’s only low vision center, and the MEDRVA Foundation.
