RICHMOND, Va. (June 7, 2022) – MEDRVA Healthcare’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Taylan “Ty” Bozkurt as the next president and CEO at MEDRVA Healthcare, after an extensive nationwide search. Mr. Bozkurt will oversee all operations of Central Virginia’s only independent, non-profit health system, which includes the region’s busiest ambulatory surgery centers, an imaging center, a low vision center, and the MEDRVA Foundation.
“Ty’s background aligned well with the attributes the search committee identified at the beginning of the process last fall,” explained Peter Pastore, chair of MEDRVA Healthcare’s Board. “We wanted a successful healthcare leader, but we also wanted to continue with a person with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation in both patient care and technology. After receiving interest from more than 400 professionals from throughout the nation, Ty rose to the top of our list.”
Mr. Pastore noted that the organization’s Board of Directors were gratified by the EXTENT AND quality of the candidate pool, as well as the feedback they received throughout the process. “We know that MEDRVA Healthcare is quietly doing things right when we consistently see patient satisfaction scores at 99 percent and below-industry average staff turnover rates, for example. But we were gratified to realize during this process that our success here in Richmond is being noticed around the nation.”
Mr. Bozkurt is currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer, Vice President of Operations and Security Officer for Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America. Prior to that, he was Operations and Financial Manager for the Department of Surgery and Program Manager for Telehealth at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is relocating to Richmond from Augusta, Georgia.
“I am excited to lead the team at MEDRVA Healthcare,” said Mr. Bozkurt. “I was impressed with both the history of the organization and the volunteers and professionals associated with it
today. The healthcare industry is evolving quickly and MEDRVA Healthcare is well positioned to continue to be in the forefront of that change.”
Mr. Bozkurt will begin the position on July 5, replacing Bruce P. D. Kupper who is retiring after 17 years as president and CEO of MEDRVA Healthcare.
MEDRVA is an independent, not-for-profit, health care organization based in Richmond, Virginia. It opened to the public in 1952 as the Richmond Eye Hospital. Today MEDRVA Healthcare includes two outpatient surgery centers with 14 operating rooms, an imaging center, the region’s only low vision center and the MEDRVA Foundation. The network of complementary services works together to provide excellence in outpatient care and medical research to contribute to the region’s good health.
